Over the years, CIPCO has established several business relationships with industry, professional, corporate, and economic development organizations. Listed and categorized below are some of these associations.

Electric/Utility Industry

American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) – The ACCCE advocates public policies that advance environmental improvement, economic prosperity, and energy security. ACCCE is committed to continue and enhance U.S. leadership in developing and deploying new, advanced clean coal technologies that protect and improve the environment. The ACCCE organization was formed from a merger with Americans for Balanced Energy (ABEC) and the Center for Energy and Economic Development.

ACES Power Marketing (APM) – A customer for several years, CIPCO became the 16th member of APM in 2008.  ACES is a nationally recognized wholesale energy risk management and transaction execution service company with expert knowledge in fuel contracts, emissions trading, renewable energy credits, and power trades.

Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) – Established in 1973 as an independent, non-profit center for electricity and environmental research, providing science and technology solutions to our global energy customers representing over 90% of the electricity generated in the United States.

Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives (IAEC) - Provides services to the state’s electric cooperatives in the areas of legislation, regulation, safety, communications, education and training, and employee benefits.

Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities (IAMU) - Represents more than 550 municipal electric, gas, water, and telecommunication utilities statewide. The IAMU was organized in 1947 and today is the largest organization of its kind in the country.

Iowa Energy Center – Invests its resources to create a stable energy future for the state of Iowa and also works progressively, producing dividends that support Iowa communities, businesses and individuals.

Iowa Pipeline Association (IPA) - Works to develop and enhance communications and establish positive working relations between pipeline companines in Iowa. The IPA also educates the public and private sectors on the importance of pipeline safety. 

ITC Midwest - The region’s electric transmission system, is responsible for investing in, operating, and managing reliable and cost-effective electric transmission service for customers. CIPCO and ITC operate an integrated transmission system to minimize costs and maximize value. The arrangement relative to the integrated transmission system (CIPCO/ITC) also includes operations and maintenance of CIPCO facilities by ITC Midwest.

Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (MAPP) – An association of electric utilities and other electric industry participants organized in 1972 for the purpose of pooling generation and transmission resources. CIPCO is a member of the MAPP Regional Transmission group.

Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) – This is a non-profit Independent Transmission System Operator that serves the electrical transmission needs of much of the Midwest, headquartered in Indianapolis, IN. This organization is committed to reliability, the nondiscriminatory operation of the bulk power transmission system, and to working with all stakeholders to create cost-effective and innovative solutions for our changing industry.

Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) - Is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the reliability and security of the bulk power system in the north central region of North America, including parts of both the United States and Canada.

National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) - Represents the interests of cooperative electric utilities and the consumers they serve. NRECA is an advocate for the consumer-owned cooperatives on energy and operational issues as well as rural community and economic development.

National Rural Telephone Cooperative (NRTC) – Assists more than 1400 rural electric and telephone utilities strengthen their businesses with advanced telecommunications solutions that meet the unique needs of their membership.

Touchstone Energy® - Is a national alliance of more than 660 local, consumer-owned electric cooperatives in 46 states providing high standards of service to customers large and small? The Touchstone Energy cooperatives serve their members with integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to communities. This group of electric cooperatives makes up the largest utility network in the nation.

Professional/Corporate Development

CoBank - Delivers comprehensive, flexible and effective financial solutions to our customers, including U.S. agribusinesses, agricultural cooperatives, Farm Credit associations, and rural energy, communications and water companies.

Cooperative Career Center - The Cooperative Career Center is an online service made available through CIPCO’s association with NRECA and Touchstone Energy® to post position openings, review posted resumes, and review potential applicants for jobs posted.

Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) - A broad-based organization of Iowa businesses working together to promote Iowa commerce.

Iowa Electric Utility Safety and Training Association – This training coordinated through the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives in cooperation with the National Utility Training & Safety Education Association promotes professionalism and safety education as well as a continuous exchange of information, ideas and job-related experiences among its members involving job training and safety education.

Iowa-Illinois Safety Council – A chapter of the National Safety Council since 1980, this non-profit organization, supported by over 1200 members in Iowa and Illinois, provides a variety of safety information, seminars, and services to members in an effort to reduce accidents or injuries and the extraordinary costs associated with them.

Iowa Institute for Cooperatives - An organization of over 180 cooperatives of varying types, the benefits received by its members include legislative action and protection, education and training, business development assistance and family support.

Morgan Stanley Smith Barney - Through its vast resources, Smith Barney Consulting Group provides a database of over 6,000 investment products, research on over 500 investment managers, and its expertise on a total portfolio of $189 billion in client investment assets.

National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (NRUCFC or CFC) - is a privately owned, non-governmental organization that provides state-of-the-art financial products to its members. An independent source of financing that supplements the credit programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS).

Questline® - Created for energy utilities and manufacturing outreach centers as a mechanism to deliver one-on-one technical and business-oriented information to their clients. This service answers questions regarding new technologies, energy efficiency, environmental, regulatory issues, and business marketing requests. This no-cost service provided through the support of the Iowa Area Development Group.

USDA: Rural Utilities Service (RUS) - Is a Rural Development Agency of the United States Department of Agriculture. RUS carries on the tradition of helping rural utilities expand and keep their technology up to date, helping establish new and vital services. The RUS is also a policy and planning rural advocacy agency.

Community/Economic Development

International Ground Source Heat Pump (IGSHPA) – This member-driven, non-profit, member-driven organization established in 1987 promotes the use of ground source heat pump technology worldwide through education and communication.

Iowa Area Development Group (IADG) - In a collaborative effort for more than 20 years, IADG provides business and community development services for business growth, economic diversification, and community vitality in our membership communities.

Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) – Eagerly helps with tools and assistance in facilitating a communities’ vision to become a reality. The mission is to improve the economic well-being of the state of Iowa by working with businesses and communities to strengthen their foundations for growth.

Iowa Farm Bureau Federation – CIPCO has invested in the newly launched Iowa Farm Bureau program Renew Rural Iowa to encourage the growth of new and existing business in Iowa communities with a population of less than 30,000. 

National Rural Economic Developers Association (NREDA) - Provides education, advocacy and networking opportunities to rural and suburban utilities and affiliated organizations. It is an individual-member, professional organization dedicated exclusively to the advancement of rural development, the development of member proficiency, and the achievement of social and human service objectives in rural areas.

The Greater Des Moines Partnership - The economic and community development organization serving the Greater Des Moines metro covering a three-county region. The Partnership is dedicated to the economic and community development of the entire Greater Des Moines area.

The Iowa Prosperity Project – Is a non-partisan effort by Iowa companies and organizations that work to protect and grow jobs in our state. Through these efforts, information is shared on critical election issues and the candidates that may have an effect on our future.

USDA Rural Development – This branch of the USDA focuses its efforts on the development of the rural communities throughout the country.
