DES MOINES – Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO), hosted a visit by U.S. Representative Dave Loebsack at the Des Moines facility.
Representative Loebsack visited CIPCO to meet with member rural electric cooperatives, directors and staff to learn more about the rural utility industry in Iowa. CIPCO, Clarke Electric Cooperative, Consumers Energy, Farmers Electric Cooperative, Pella Cooperative Electric and T.I.P. REC provided Representative Loebsack with an overview of the industry successes, challenges and opportunities. Discussions focused on the new utility-scale solar project, support for economic development, challenges with implementing the Clean Power Plan, and the changes taking place with energy generation.
“CIPCO was honored to host Congressman Loebsack and showcase the utility industry along with our member cooperatives,” said CIPCO Manager of Communications & Public Affairs, Kerry Koonce. “It’s important for Iowa’s delegation to understand the critical impact rural electric cooperatives have on the success of a community.”
As the largest cooperative generation and transmission utility in Iowa, CIPCO maintains a balanced energy portfolio and ownership of electric generation assets. Nearly 60 percent of CIPCO’s energy portfolio comes from emission and carbon-free resources including wind, nuclear and hydroelectric. CIPCO supplies all power requirements for its member cooperatives, and as their power provider, CIPCO is dedicated to delivering quality, safe and reliable service at the lowest possible cost.
