Rural Areas Benefit with USDA Awards of $39.3 Million for Economic Development

Des Moines, IA - Central Iowa Power Cooperative’s Des Moines office was the stage as USDA representative, Sam Rikkers, Rural Business-Cooperative Services Administrator, announced on behalf of Secretary of Agriculture Vilsack of the award of $39.3 million in loans and grants. These funds will help small, rural businesses and communities in 26 states with 68 projects slated for development. Rikkers was in the state to meet with cooperative officials, business leaders and the public to highlight the important economic role cooperatives play in rural communities.

USDA Rural Development has a strong track record of strengthening rural businesses and economies through its Rural Business-Cooperative Service. CIPCO and its member owners have a definite interest in growing Iowa’s economy with partnerships, programs and policies that have been developed over the years supporting economic growth.
